Raichu (Japanese:ライチュウRaichu) is anElectric-blazonPokémon introduced inGeneration I.

Information technologyevolves from Pikachu when exposed to aThunder Stone. Information technology is the final form of Pichu.

InAlola, Raichu has a dual-typeElectric/Psychicregional form. It evolves from Pikachu when exposed to a Thunder Stone. All Pikachu in Alola will evolve into this grade regardless of their origin.

Biology

Raichu is a bipedal, rodent-likePokémon. Raichu is covered in dark orange fur with a white abdomen. Its bifurcated ears are dark-brown on the outside, yellow on the insides, and terminate in a distinctive curl. There is a circular yellowish mark on each cheek where its electric sacs are, and information technology has a triangular, dark brown olfactory organ. Its arms and feet have patches of chocolate-brown fur at the end, and the soles of its long feet are tan with a round orangish pad in the center. On its back are two horizontal dark-brown stripes. Its long, thin tail has a lightning bolt-shaped stop. This lightning bolt is chipped on females. Raichu exudes a weak electrical charge from all its body and glows slightly in the night.

Raichu'due south tail is used to get together electricity from the temper, or it can be planted in the ground to search for electricity. It also protects Raichu from its own high voltage ability. Raichu tin store over 100,000 volts of electricity. If Raichu'south sacs are fully charged, its ears volition stand up direct upward and its muscles become stimulated. However, it will get aggressive if it has stored too much electricity and stress. To keep from reaching this state, it discharges electricity through its tail into the basis. This leads to scorched patches near its nest. Existence the result of evolution viaEvolution stone, Raichu is rarely constitute in the wild, though they can exist found inforests and woodlands. The main reason Raichu is rarely seen in the wild is because people prefer the look it had as Pikachu. Similar its pre-evolved forms, Raichu is able to larnVolt Tackle as asignature motility.

InAlola, Raichu has lighter coloring and more rounded features. Its eyes are blueish with xanthous half-circles forth the bottom. It has large yellow ears with an inner spiral toward the base and brown on the within. These ears are thicker and less pointed than a standard Raichu's ear. In addition to its white belly,AlolanRaichu has white markings on its paws with bright xanthous lines between its digits. The stripes on its dorsum have likewise turned white, and there is a modest, white circular marking on each heel. The lightning bolt-shaped tip of its tail has rounded edges. By collecting its psychic ability in its tail, it is able to ride it like asurfboard and bladder in the air. While its cheek sacs are even so used to store electricity, rubbing them releases a sweet scent while also getting a light shock. This is also thought to be connected to its Psychic abilities.

Alolan Raichu's origins were initially a mystery at the time. The people of Alola suggested it ate besides many sweet and fluffy pancakes.[one] Even so, researchers believe the alter is related to a diet resulting from Raichu eating pancakes made from a secret Alolan recipe. It is also believed the weather and climate of theAlola region played a part in the transformation. Alolan Raichu is capable of unleashing star-shaped thunderbolts. Alolan Raichu is also known by the namehodad.

It is thebut known Pokémon capable of using the exclusiveZ-MoveStoked Sparksurfer.

Trivia

  • Raichu andAlolanRaichu were made up pastAtsuko Nishida.[ii]
  • Raichu originally had an evolved grade named "Gorochu", which would have had 2 horns and fangs. Sugimori said that while at that place was nothing wrong with its appearance, it was nonetheless omitted, as the staff found the game balance to be better without it.[iii]
  • No otherPokémon has the sameblazoncombination every bit Alolan Raichu.
  • InPokémon Red and Blue, there is aScientist at thePokémon Lab inCinnabar Island who willmerchandise a Raichu for an Electrode. If the thespian talks to him after the trade, he will mention that the Raichu evolved, which is not possible. This mistake was due to the original translation of the script of theJapanese Bluish (in which this person traded a Graveler for a Kadabra) rather than that ofPokémon Red and Green. This error was corrected inPokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, equally the script was re-translated.
  • Raichu's FireRed and Sun Pokédex entries reference a 1903 documentary film called Electrocuting an Elephant byThomas Edison.
  • Several Pokédex entries claim Raichu can discharge up to100,000 volts. Withal, its Stadium entry claims information technology can only belch upwardly to 10,000 volts. This is likely a translation fault due to the way numbers are read in Japanese, where 100,000 literally reads "ten x-thousands".
  • Raichuappears in every regional Pokédex except theUnova Pokédex.
  • Although Pikachu is the starter ofPokémon Yellow, information technology is not possible to directly evolve it into Raichu in the game, and must be traded in fromRuby and Blue. This disability to evolve Pikachu is a reference toAsh's Pikachu in the anime.
  • Raichu and its pre-evolved class both share theircategory name with Sandshrew, Sandslash, Rattata, and Raticate. They are all known as the Mouse Pokémon, though Rattata and Raticate accept besides been called the Rat Pokémon.
    • They all have at least one family member with aregional form inAlola.
  • Raichu's number in theNational Pokédex and theAlola Pokédex in Pokémon Lord's day and Moon are the same: 026.
  • Alolan Raichu is the but regional course Pokémon to have aZ-Move exclusive to it.

Origin

Raichu's legs and long tail resemble those of ajerboa orkangaroo rat.

AlolanRaichu is probable based on the concept ofsurfing Pikachu and the sport ofsurfing itself, which originated in Hawaii, the inspiration for theAlolaregion from which Alolan Raichu originates. Its pattern appears to have been influenced pastPuka, asurfing Pikachu that appeared in theanime and hadpsychic powers and blue eyes. In thePokémon Stadium series, Raichu rides on its tail when using the motionSurf.

Name origin

Raichu is a combination of 雷rai (thunder) and チューチューchūchū (the audio of squeaking).

Alolan Raichu's alternate name, Hodad, as seen in the Ultra SundayPokédex entry, seems to exist a direct reference to the termhodad.
